Rooted in community,
driven by solidarity

Valluvam is a Canadian non-profit organisation founded by members of the Tamil diaspora who believe in the power of collective action to create lasting, dignified change.

How Valluvam came to be

Valluvam was born from a simple but powerful realisation: that working together, we can accomplish far more than any of us can alone. A group of Tamil diaspora members in Canada, moved by the persistent struggles facing communities in Sri Lanka, came together to form an organisation grounded in direct action and deep solidarity.

The name Valluvam honours Thiruvalluvar — the revered Tamil poet-philosopher whose Kural speaks of compassion, justice, and the duties we owe one another. His words continue to guide our work.

Rather than imposing solutions from the outside, Valluvam works alongside communities — listening first, building trust, and supporting the self-determined goals of the families and villages we serve.

"It is compassion, the most gracious of virtues,
which moves the world." — Thiruvalluvar, Kural

Valluvam serves two main purposes

Tamil Empowerment

To provide direct, practical support to Tamil communities in Sri Lanka — through housing, children's welfare, women's health, and economic empowerment programs that address real needs on the ground.

Our programs are designed with communities, not just for them. We fund infrastructure, resources, and people — not bureaucracy.

Tamil Solidarity

To build and sustain a global network of Tamil solidarity — connecting diaspora communities in Canada, Southeast Asia, and beyond with the villages and families who need their support most.

Solidarity means showing up consistently, not just in moments of crisis. It means building relationships across borders that are lasting and mutual.

Our values

Dignity மரியாதை

Every person we work with deserves to be treated with full respect and dignity — always.

Solidarity ஒருமைப்பாடு

We stand alongside communities as partners, not benefactors. Change is collective.

Compassion அன்பு

Thiruvalluvar taught us that compassion moves the world. It moves everything we do.

Accountability பொறுப்பு

We are transparent about how donations are used and honest about our impact.
